What to Do After A Multi-Vehicle Accident

The aftermath of a car accident can be terrifying and leave you unsure of what to do. However, being watchful of your words and actions following an accident is essential to protect your legal rights and strengthen your claim for pursuing compensation for your losses and injuries. Take the following actions:

  • Check your own body for wounds and assess the condition of the others.
  • Disabled vehicles should ideally be moved to the side of the road. Locate a safe area and wait for the police.
  • Inform the authorities about the accident. Law enforcement officers will record the incident and compile a formal report.
  • Find out more about the other driver or drivers. Take pictures of the cars, the license plates, the injuries, the damage, and other relevant details.
  • Do not admit fault, not even to the authorities. When describing what happened during the collision, stick to the facts.
  • Immediately seek medical attention. Visit the nearby hospital or speak with your doctor. Internal injuries that do not manifest symptoms can be found using tests and scans.
  • Inform your insurance provider. There are deadlines for reporting accidents at most insurance companies in California. Follow the agent’s guidelines when submitting the report.
  • Speak to the claims adjuster. Before making statements or accepting settlement offers, speak with a lawyer.
  • Documents related to the accident, such as the police report, medical bills, details about the other driver, and injury treatment plans, should be organized in a file.
