[05-28-2022] Calaveras County, CA - 32-Year-Old Jackson Man Killed In Fatal Two-Vehicle Collision in San AndreasAccording to the California Highway Patrol, a fatal head-on two-vehicle collision killed one person and another injured after a fiery accident on Highway 49 Saturday, May 28, 2022.

The fatal crash occurred at around 5:12 p.m. on Highway 49 near Gold Strike Road in San Andreas.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver of a Ford Expedition SUV crossed over into the opposing traffic lane and collided with an oncoming Dodge Ram truck.

The Expedition caught fire, and the driver was declared dead on the spot. Ryan M., 32, of Jackson, has been identified as the suspect.

Rodney P. of San Andreas, the Dodge Ram’s driver, was flown to UC Davis for treatment of major injuries.

His vehicle caught fire as well, and he was heroically rescued by CHP Officer Toby Butzler and others who stopped to help.

It’s unclear whether drugs or alcohol played a role.

The California Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident.
