The collision occurred Tuesday morning on Interstate 15 in the Carmel Mountain area.

According to San Diego Police, officers tried to pull over a sedan for a traffic infraction, but the car sped away.

When the car struck the back of a milk truck close to Carmel Mountain Road, it was traveling south on I-15.

The milk truck flipped onto its side as a result of the collision, trapping the drivers of both vehicles.

Both drivers were extracted by emergency personnel using the Jaws of Life, and according to the police, they were taken to local hospitals for treatment.

The traffic was backed up all the way back to Rancho Bernardo Road at 6:30 in the morning due to the response to the accident.
