Fatal Bicycle Accident Statistics

Despite the many laws designed to protect cyclists in the United States, accidents will still happen. Over 800 bicyclists were killed in the United States in 2018, with California having the greatest death toll.

However, if a mishap occurs, it is the cyclist’s responsibility to clean up. In 2015, there was a 50,000 decline in bicycle accidents across the United States. Death tolls increased despite a 12% decrease in bicycle accidents in the United States in 2001.

The National Center for Health Statistics reports that 377 bicyclists died of unclear causes and that 712 were struck and killed by motor vehicles.

California has the highest rate of fatalities per 100,000 people from bicycle accidents in the United States. According to the National Bicycle Safety Foundation, 145 cyclists were murdered and 11,116 were injured in California in 2017.

In everyday riding, you run the risk of a few things. Motorists often disobey the law and ride dangerously close to bikers, endangering their lives. The potential for harm and perhaps death is increased as a result of this.
