- I-15 Interchanges and Crossings: Bicycle crash risks on I-15 generally arise on local streets, overcrossings, and ramp intersections connecting to the freeway, not from cyclists riding on the I-15 mainline. Hesperia has interchanges at Bear Valley Road, Main Street, Joshua Street/US-395, and Oak Hills Road, where cyclists may encounter vehicles entering or leaving the freeway.
- Law Enforcement: The City contracts with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department for police services. The Hesperia Patrol Station investigates collisions on many city streets, while the California Highway Patrol (CHP) patrols portions of I-15, US-395, and other state routes in the High Desert.
- Camera Evidence: Hesperia uses Automatic License Plate Reader (ALPR) equipment to capture vehicle and license plate information for law enforcement purposes. Several different deadlines may apply:
- Personal Injury: Lawsuits against private defendants generally must be filed within two years under CCP § 335.1.
- Property Damage: Lawsuits for damage to a bicycle, helmet, or other property generally have a three-year deadline under CCP § 338.
- Government Claims: Claims against the City of Hesperia, San Bernardino County, Caltrans, or another public entity generally must first be presented within six months under Government Code § 911.2.
