One of the deadliest types of road accidents is pedestrian accidents. This is mostly because pedestrians are extremely vulnerable to deadly injuries. In the United States, 5,977 pedestrians were killed in automobile accidents in 2017. At least one person dies due to pedestrian accidents every 88 minutes. Between 2009 and 2018, about 7,500 pedestrians died in California.
California has the highest number of pedestrian deaths on its roads. The pedestrian death rate in California is over 25% higher than the national average. Some common reasons for pedestrian accidents are negligent driving, speeding, and drivers failing to yield to pedestrians.
