A 16-year-old boy was killed while two other teenagers were seriously injured after a head-on collision near Delta Road on Wednesday evening, June 16.
The deadly collision happened at approximately 5:35 p.m. on Sellers Avenue, just south of Delta Road. A white 2015 Acura TLX sedan driven by the 16-year-old boy was heading southbound on Sellers avenue when, for unclear reasons, the white Acura crossed over the double yellow lines and veered into the opposite lane.
The 2015 Acura then collided head-on with a northbound blue 2003 Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by a 19-year-old teen. The Acura driver was killed in the collision. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile, his 15-year-old passenger was rushed to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek in critical condition.
The F-150 driver also sustained serious injuries from the crash and was taken to an area hospital for treatment as well. It is unclear whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.
The crash is currently under investigation. Witnesses that can provide more information about the accident are urged to contact CHP’s Contra Costa office at 925-646-4980.
Fatal Head-On Collision Statistics
Head-on collisions are accidents that involve extreme force. As a result, there is a lot of energy generated by head-on collisions. In turn, this increased energy means that injuries are more likely to be fatal in this type of crash. Although head-on collisions only represent 2 percent of accidents, they account for 10 percent of fatalities on U.S. roadways.
Head-on crashes are also sometimes a result of wrong-way driving. Every year, approximately 355 people are killed in the U.S. due to wrong-way drivers. With the average number of wrong-way collision deaths at 265, 1.34 fatalities per wrong-way deaths are calculated. There are many potential causes of head-on collisions. Your attorney needs to determine what, exactly, caused the accident because this will determine who was at fault (“liable”) for the accident. The person responsible for the accident also has a legal obligation to compensate you for your injuries and losses.
