Multi-Vehicle Collision Statistics

With a population of around 40 million people, it’s no surprise that California is a hotspot for car accidents. The California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) reports that there were 3,563 car accident fatalities throughout the state in 2018 alone. Thousands of people must deal with grief and sudden loss in the wake of California’s deadly accidents.

A collision is considered a “multi-vehicle collision” when three or more cars are involved in the accident. They commonly stem from a “chain-reaction” crash, wherein one vehicle will bump into another, potentially causing it to crash into other cars on the roadway. According to the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, multi-vehicle collisions account for about 7% of all collisions, accounting for over 25% of all fatal injuries.

In this case, a school bus was involved in the collision. Buses and school transportation vehicles account for about 0.3 percent of all motor vehicle collisions. Between 2009 and 2018, 1,207 people died in school-related crashes, an average of 121 per year. Passengers in passenger vehicles were responsible for 70% of fatalities in school bus accidents. 249 (20.6 percent) of the 1,207 people killed were students.

Fresno County Personal Injury Attorney for Victims of Multi-Vehicle Collisions

Some injury victims do not get representation because they are worried about the cost. Not hiring a lawyer can lead to you hurting your claim. You might say something to the insurance company that makes them believe you were at fault for the accident.

You don’t have to worry about your lawyer fees right away when talking to a personal injury attorney. Unlike criminal defense or divorce lawyers, who charge an hourly rate, most personal injury lawyers work on contingency. Working on contingency means that they will be paid an agreed-upon percentage of any eventual settlement. If you don’t get paid, the attorney doesn’t get paid.
