Two people were hospitalized following a multi-vehicle crash involving commercial vehicles and a passenger car on Interstate 10 near Whitewater in Riverside County, early Tuesday morning, February 3, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred at around 2:00 a.m. on the eastbound Interstate 10 just west of the Whitewater off-ramp.

CHP logs indicated that the crash began when a semi-truck was rear-ended, causing a Subaru and another semi-truck to come to rest in the center divider. Authorities noted that additional vehicles may have also been involved.

Officials reported that one of the semi-trucks began leaking fuel, prompting a hazardous materials response. Cal Fire, Caltrans, Riverside County Department of Public Health, and the California Office of Emergency Services responded to assist at the scene.

A SIG Alert was issued around 6:00 a.m. as crews worked to clear the crash and address the fuel leak. CHP later confirmed that all lanes of eastbound Interstate 10 were reopened as of approximately 10:00 a.m.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
