[02-16-2026] El Dorado County, CA – Three Pedestrians Hospitalized After Being Struck by Vehicle on US 50 at Echo Summit

Three pedestrians were hospitalized after being struck by a Chevrolet Silverado on US 50 at Echo Summit in El Dorado County on Monday afternoon, February 16, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the crash occurred at around 12:45 p.m. when a Kia sedan stopped in a turnout just east of Johnson Pass Road to adjust a tire chain.

Two bystanders stopped to help, and all three men, ages 21-23 from the Bay Area, were working on the left front tire when the driver of a Chevrolet Silverado lost control on the snow-covered roadway.

The Chevrolet, traveling westbound on US 50, veered across the eastbound lanes and collided with the Kia, striking all three pedestrians. One pedestrian was thrown approximately 40 feet, landing on the right shoulder, while the other two were dragged by the vehicle before being freed by passersby and Caltrans personnel.

All three pedestrians suffered major injuries and were transported to Barton Memorial Hospital. The two occupants of the Chevrolet, ages 17 and 21 from Sacramento, sustained minor injuries and complained of chest pain.

The CHP investigation confirmed that alcohol and drugs were not factors in the crash.
