[04-02-2026] Sonoma County, CA – Child Suffers Injuries After Being Struck By Drunk Driver in Petaluma

A 10-year-old boy suffered injuries after a suspected DUI hit-and-run incident in Petaluma, Sonoma County, on Thursday afternoon, April 2, 2026.

According to the Petaluma Police Department, officers responded at around 4:12 p.m. to the intersection of Washington Street and Howard Street after receiving several 911 calls reporting that a vehicle had struck a child. Authorities said the vehicle continued westbound on Bodega Avenue after the collision.

Responding officers found the child with minor injuries. He was taken to a medical facility for treatment and is expected to recover. Early reports indicate the boy was walking in a marked crosswalk when he was hit.

Police said witnesses provided a license plate number, which led officers to the registered owner’s address. Officers contacted a 63-year-old Petaluma resident, who allegedly admitted to striking the pedestrian and leaving the scene.

Authorities also said the suspect showed signs of alcohol intoxication during the interview and was arrested on suspicion of DUI hit-and-run. He was later booked into the Sonoma County Jail.

The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
