Car Accident Statistics
The United States has one of the highest numbers of vehicles on the road in the world. By the third quarter of 2021, there were almost 284 million vehicles being used across the country. That means many people are driving every day.
As of 2019, more than 228.7 million people in the U.S. had a valid driverโs license. With so many drivers and vehicles, the roads can become very busy. This often leads to a higher chance of traffic accidents.
In 2019, about 12.15 million vehicles were involved in crashes across the United States. More than half of those were passenger cars, which are the vehicles most people use for regular travel.
Experts believe that the number of road accidents for every one million people in the U.S. will go down in the next few years. By 2025, the expected number is a little over 7,100 accidents per million people. The number of traffic-related deaths is also likely to go down, but at a slower pace.
