A man died after being struck by a semi-truckโs trailer in Long Beach on Wednesday night, August 20, 2025.
According to the Long Beach Police Department, officers were dispatched around 8:10 p.m. to the intersection of Oregon Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway regarding a person down.
Arriving officers found an adult male on the southwest sidewalk with injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle. Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported him to a local hospital in critical condition, where he later died despite lifesaving efforts.
Investigators said a semi-truck with a loaded trailer was turning southbound onto Oregon Avenue from eastbound Pacific Coast Highway when the trailerโs rear tires rolled onto the sidewalk and struck the victim, who appeared to have been sleeping there. The truck driver continued southbound and failed to remain at the scene.
Authorities said speed, distracted driving, and impairment do not appear to be contributing factors in the crash. The Los Angeles County Medical Examinerโs Office will release the victimโs identity after notifying the next of kin.
The investigation is ongoing.
