[08-26-2024] Santa Clara County, CA – One Killed, Another Injured in Head-On Big Rig Collision Near Santa Clara-San Benito County Line

One man was killed, and another suffered major injuries in a head-on collision between two big rigs on Highway 25 near the Santa Clara-San Benito county line on Monday morning, August 26, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred just before 10:00 a.m., south of Bolsa Road.

Authorities stated that a 70-year-old man driving a 2017 Freightliner Cascadia was traveling northbound at around 60 mph when he crossed over the solid double yellow lines and collided with a 68-year-old man driving a 2022 Mack Anthem southbound at around 40 mph.

Both big rigs came to a stop on the west shoulder, with their trailers blocking the southbound lane. The 68-year-old man suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity will be released by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office once it is confirmed and his next of kin is notified.

The 70-year-old man was ejected from the Freightliner and sustained major injuries. He was transported to the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center for treatment.

The CHP confirmed that neither drugs nor alcohol played a role in the collision.

The investigation is ongoing.
