Motorcycle Accident Statistics

Motorcycle accidents remain a major concern for road safety across the United States. In 2021, approximately 5,932 motorcyclists were killed in traffic crashes nationwide, with California reporting 565 of these fatalities.

From 2020 to 2021, motorcycle fatalities increased by 7.7% nationwide, with California seeing a smaller rise of 2.9%. This still highlights the ongoing need for enhanced safety measures and awareness programs for motorcyclists.

While motorcycles represent a small portion of vehicles on the road, they account for a disproportionately high number of traffic fatalities. Because motorcyclists donโ€™t have the protection of enclosed vehicles, their crashes are often more severe. This underscores the importance of wearing helmets, practicing safe riding habits, and implementing safety-focused initiatives for riders.
