A passenger was killed and a driver was injured following a crash involving a semi-truck and a pickup truck near Lamont, Kern County, early Monday morning, December 29, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision was reported around 6:40 a.m. at the intersection of South Edison Road and Hermosa Road.
CHP said a 2016 white International semi-tractor was traveling southbound on South Edison Road as a 1992 white Toyota pickup truck traveled westbound on Hermosa Road and stopped at the four-way intersection.
For reasons still under investigation, both vehicles entered the intersection, causing the front of the Toyota to collide with the left side of the semi-tractor. The impact caused the pickup to rotate and come to rest within the intersection.
Authorities said the driver of the Toyota pickup and his passenger sustained moderate to major injuries and were transported to Kern Medical. The passenger, identified by the Kern County Coroner’s Office as 42-year-old Esther D. of Arvin, later died from her injuries.
CHP reported that the driver of the semi-truck was not injured and cooperated with investigators. Alcohol or drugs were not believed to be factors in the crash.
