[01-17-2026] San Bernardino County, CA – Man Killed After Being Struck by Big Rig on Highway 247 Near Barstow

A 35-year-old Apple Valley man died after being struck by a big rig along Highway 247 near Barstow on Saturday, January 17, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol and San Bernardino County coroner’s officials, the crash occurred around 1:45 p.m. on the northbound side of Highway 247 near Nandin Road in an unincorporated area of San Bernardino County, just south of Barstow.

Investigators said a Mack Anthem truck hauling a dry bulk tank trailer was heading north before the crash. The truck driver was also identified as a 35-year-old Apple Valley man.

In a written statement, the California Highway Patrol said that, for reasons still under investigation, a Mack Anthem struck the pedestrian.

Paramedics transported the badly injured man to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead from his injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
