A 37-year-old worker died after being rescued from an underground tank at a Costco gas station construction site in Sacramento on Monday morning, September 8, 2025.
According to Sacramento Fire officials, emergency crews responded shortly before 11 a.m. to the construction site along Expo Parkway after reports that a worker was trapped inside a three- to four-foot underground cylinder.
Authorities stated that the fueling station was undergoing renovations and the tanks were empty at the time of the incident. Investigators believe the worker had entered the tank to clean it when he experienced a medical emergency, possibly related to inhaling fumes.
Rescue crews removed the worker from the tank and transported him to a hospital while performing CPR. Sacramento Fire later confirmed that the worker died from his injuries.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Ashkan M., 37, of Berkeley.
No further details were immediately available.
