[09-08-2026] Butte County, CA – 20-Year-Old Motorcyclist Critically Injured in Collision With Van in Chico

A 20-year-old motorcyclist was critically injured in a collision with a van in Chico on Tuesday night, September 8, 2026.

According to the Chico Police Department, officers responded to the incident at around 8:00 p.m. at the intersection of East 1st Avenue and Neal Dow Avenue.

Police said the motorcycle was traveling eastbound on East 1st Avenue while the van was traveling westbound and making a left turn onto Neal Dow Avenue. Both vehicles reportedly had a green light at the time of the collision.

Responding officers found the motorcycle heavily damaged and the 20-year-old rider critically injured in the roadway.

The van, driven by a 57-year-old Chico woman, was carrying several passengers. None of the occupants of the van was injured.

Based on its preliminary investigation, Chico police said no charges would be filed against the van driver.

The Chico Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team continues to investigate the crash.
