[01-31-2025] 88-Year-Old Man Killed, Another Injured in Suspected DUI Crash at Golden Lantern and Stonehill Drive in Dana PointAn 88-year-old man was killed, and another person sustained serious injuries following a two-vehicle crash involving a suspected DUI driver in Dana Point on Friday evening, January 31, 2025.

According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, the incident occurred at approximately 6:15 p.m. at the intersection of Golden Lantern and Stonehill Drive.

A Land Rover SUV traveling westbound on Stonehill Drive reportedly turned left against a red arrow signal, colliding with an eastbound Ford Transit van.

Melvin W., a passenger in the Transit van, was pronounced dead at the scene. The van’s driver was transported to a hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Land Rover, 48-year-old Serene R. of Dana Point, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence with three prior convictions. She was booked into the Orange County Jail on charges of murder and DUI causing injury.
