One person was killed following a two-vehicle collision in Martinez early Wednesday morning, February 01, 2023.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal crash occurred shortly before 4:17 a.m. on the westbound lanes of Highway 4 near the Pine Street off-ramp.
Details on what caused the crash were not immediately available, but reports revealed that two cars were involved, with a sedan heavily damaged on the roadside.
One person was believed to be ejected from one of the vehicles. It remains unclear whether the person was the single reported death in the collision. No further information on the total number of people involved was released.
CHP closed the highway’s westbound lanes for roughly two hours, causing the traffic to back up. Traffic was redirected to Morello Avenue before the highway was reopened.
Fatal Two-Vehicle Accident Statistics
With one person killed and ten injured every minute due to road accidents, the United States has one of the highest rates in the world. Every year, two million people younger than twenty-four die, and ten times that many are injured. The number of people killed in car accidents in California is projected to exceed 10,000 by 2050.
There has been an annual average increase of 23.5 percent in traffic-related fatalities since 2013. In 2017, 3,898 people were killed and 279,000 were injured as a result of automobile-related accidents in the United States. There were nine fatalities for every 100,000 people using public transportation that year.
Most drivers in California will have experienced being in an accident at least once in their lifetime. Maintaining a safe following distance, remaining vigilant at all times, and routinely checking your vehicle’s state are all examples of defensive driving tactics that can reduce the likelihood of an accident.
What to Do After a Car Accident
It is imperative that you report a multi-vehicle accident to the authorities as soon as possible if you or someone you know has been involved in such an incident. Just provide the police with the facts; don’t give them your assumptions or take on what happened. After experiencing a tragedy, some people may feel forced to apologize, even if they had nothing to do with bringing about the incident. This can be used against you by the insurance company when it comes to your claim.
Contact the police department where the accident happened to request a copy of the incident report. If you’d prefer us to request it on your behalf, just fill out our online form. We can start processing your claim once we obtain such information. Please get in touch with us if you’d like a free, no-risk evaluation of your case’s potential.
