Fatal Hit-And-Run Collision Statistics

As reported in a recent study, hit-and-run accidents have sharply increased in the past few years. Fatal hit-and-run incidents accounted for 24% of pedestrian deaths in 2020.

Compared to other states, California has the most pedestrian deaths. Over 14,000 pedestrians were injured, and 893 were killed in California in 2012.

Generally, hit-and-run accidents occur when two vehicles collide, and one vehicle flees without stopping to assist the injured party. Besides the pain and suffering from injury accidents, hit-and-run incidents may have unfavorable consequences if victims are not treated as soon as possible.

Accidents involving pedestrians are often caused by sudden braking or failing to yield to pedestrians.

By using sidewalks whenever possible, abstaining from drugs and alcohol, and exercising caution when crossing streets or driving, pedestrians can reduce their risk of harm.

How Do I Submit a Police Report After an Accident

Be sure to have the police arrive at the scene of the collision and file a report. You should speak honestly about what you saw and felt at the location of the accident if questioned. When speaking, exercise caution and avoid making assumptions about unfamiliar situations. Due to shock and anxiety, victims may apologize profusely after an accident, even if they did not cause it. Insurance companies may view this act of kindness as evidence that you admitted fault in their decision to deny your claim.
