Train Accident Statistics

According to the National Transportation Safety Board, pedestrians are more likely to be killed on trains than in collisions with automobiles. Faulty warning systems, out-of-date safety equipment, and unsafe crossings most often cause train accidents.

A train collides with a car or a person about every two hours. A train accident kills over a thousand people every year. About 2,300 people were injured, and 600 people died as a result.

Trains are the best form of transportation. Employees and passengers are affected by the conductors’ abilities and the frequency of repairs. Passengers are put at risk when drivers are negligent or take inappropriate shortcuts.

Over 7,200 people have lost their lives in train accidents in the US since 1997. Overtaking all other factors, trains striking pedestrians are the leading cause of deaths on American railroads.

Many factors contribute to railway accidents, including derailments, worn-out tracks, disregard for safety regulations, and lax security.
