What to Do After a Workplace Accident

After an accident, the first thing you should do is visit a doctor. If you don’t get help soon, your injuries could get worse. Worker’s comp may try to say you caused these “additional injuries” and therefore are responsible for paying for them. Leave no room for the insurance company to reject your claim. Your health and your right to financial compensation for your injuries are best served by getting medical help immediately.

Once you have received medical attention, you should inform your employer about the incident. Failure to notify the insurer of a claim promptly may result in its denial. Do not assume your company will initiate a claim just because they say they will. Remember that your employer’s insurance policy is on the line, so they may not be on your side.
