[02-20-2023] Two Killed, Three Injured After Car vs. Train Crash in Central AlamedaTwo people got killed while three others sustained injuries following a collision between a train and a vehicle in Los Angeles on Monday evening, February 20, 2023.

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the tragic crash occurred at about 6:16 p.m. near 1629 E 24th Street, south of the Santa Monica (10) Freeway in the Central Alameda neighborhood.

Responders arrived to the scene and found five occupants trapped inside the vehicle after it had been struck by a Metro A (Blue) line train. Two of the extricated occupants were declared dead on the spot. The remaining three were taken to nearby hospitals in fair to moderate conditions.

The train was carrying roughly 125 passengers when the crash happened. Fortunately, no one was reportedly injured. Two train operators got off and one of them received precautionary medical evaluation.

The authorities are still investigating the fatal collision. No further details are immediately available.

Fatal Train Accident Statistics

There were 893 fatalities in train accidents in 2016, up 20% from the year before’s figure of 744. From 2020 to 2021, there was a 4% increase, or 5,780 additional patients admitted to hospitals due to catastrophic injuries. There was a 21% rise in deaths at highway-rail grade crossings between 2020 and 2021.

Only about a third of those involved in train collisions had fully recovered. Out of the 893 pedestrian fatalities in 2021, train crashes accounted for 266 deaths.

There were about 3,216 injured commuters that year. These wounds might be lethal if they were really bad. In the United States, 66 people were killed in 2015 in accidents involving cars and trains at grade crossings.
