[02-26-2024] Three People Hospitalized Following Hazmat Incident in BoronThree people were hospitalized following a hazmat incident in Boron, Kern County, on Monday morning, February 26, 2024.

According to the Kern County Fire Department, the incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. when a patient drove a vehicle near Boron with a significant amount of mercury spilled inside.

Authorities said firefighters were immediately dispatched for a hazmat response. The patient was instructed to self-decontaminate by removing clothing, showering with soap and water, and wearing clean clothes.

As a precaution, the patient and two other occupants of their residence were advised to come outside until their place could be cleared of hazards. Hazmat firefighters in protective suits entered the house and carefully checked the three individuals using a mercury vapor monitor.

Firefighters said that all three individuals were transported to a hospital for further testing.

No further information was released. The investigation continues.
