Fatal Pedestrian Accident Statistics
There is a greater risk of injury or death for pedestrians and motorcycle riders than for other road users. Because they are not adequately protected in the event of an accident, this is the reason.
Unfortunately, the number of pedestrian accidents has risen sharply. While other types of traffic-related deaths decreased by 14% between 2007 and 2016, the number of people killed while walking rose by 27%.
A total of 5,977 pedestrians lost their lives in the United States in 2017. One person dies every 88 minutes, according to this estimate. 2017 saw an estimated 137,000 non-fatal pedestrian injuries being treated in hospital emergency rooms.
Compared to other states, California has the highest number of pedestrian deaths and serious injuries. Last year, 893 people died, and 14,000 were injured in California car accidents that involved pedestrians.
Driver carelessness, excessive speed, and failure to yield to pedestrians are the most common causes of pedestrian accidents. An experienced lawyer’s guidance is critical in such circumstances.
