One woman was killed and three others were injured in a crash involving two Can Am vehicles at the Superstition Off-Highway Recreational Area near Wheeler Road in Imperial County on Saturday afternoon, March 22, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 12:05 p.m. when a black 2023 Can Am driven by a 64-year-old man collided with a tan 2023 Can Am driven by a 26-year-old man. Both vehicles were traveling westbound at the time of the crash.
The impact caused both vehicles to overturn. The passenger in the black Can Am, a 61-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver suffered major injuries and was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center for treatment.
The driver of the tan Can Am sustained minor injuries, while his 29-year-old female passenger suffered major injuries and was also taken to Desert Regional Medical Center. The driver was transported separately to El Centro Regional Medical Center.
CHP confirmed that all occupants were wearing helmets and were properly restrained at the time of the crash.
The CHP is investigating the cause of the fatal collision.
