Three people were injured, including one in critical condition, following a violent two-vehicle crash on State Route 18 near Johnson Road in the community of Phelan, San Bernardino County, late Saturday night, March 22, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred shortly before 11:00 p.m. and involved a 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV and a 2002 GMC Yukon. Upon arrival, San Bernardino County Fire personnel found the GMC Yukon overturned on its side, while the Chevrolet sustained extensive front-end damage.
CHP incident logs indicated that a male occupant from the overturned vehicle suffered a serious head injury with significant bleeding. Emergency crews assessed three patients at the scene—two with delayed injuries and one in critical condition.
A medical helicopter was dispatched, prompting a temporary shutdown of both directions of SR-18 to allow for a safe landing.
The critically injured patient was airlifted to an out-of-area trauma center for further medical treatment.
The CHP’s Victorville Station is investigating the cause of the collision.
