Workplace Accident Statistics

Tens of thousands of Californian workers suffer work-related injuries every year. According to the California Department of Industry Relations, 78% of the state’s 466,000 non-fatal workplace injuries occur in the private sector every single year.

The year 2017 saw a total of 376 people losing their lives on the job in California. Although this is a marked improvement over prior years’ statistics, far too many deadly accidents are still happening in the workplace.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that in November 2020, more than two-thirds of American workers were injured on the job. There has been no change in this figure from last year.

Workplace deaths have increased by 2% from 2017 to 2018, to 5,333, despite a decrease in workers’ compensation claims. Since 2010, the death toll has been on the rise.

What to Do After a Workplace Accident

Those who have been hurt should hurry to a nearby medical facility. In an emergency, you are not required to ask your boss for time off. We cannot emphasize enough how important it is that you notify your employer of your injuries as soon as possible, ideally within the 30-day timeframe, for everyone’s sake, but especially the family of the deceased. Then, you should check into the claim. You should always double-check to see if your employer has submitted a claim for workers’ compensation on your behalf.

Consult a lawyer with experience in workers’ compensation and industrial accidents. If you have been seriously injured on the job, your employer has denied your claim, or you are having any other trouble obtaining workers’ compensation, you should seek the advice of an attorney as soon as possible.
