What to Do After a Hit-and-Run Accident
If you are in an accident with a driver who doesn’t stop, you can still protect your right to compensation. Your efforts can help authorities locate and arrest the driver, and they can also bolster your case if you decide to file a lawsuit for damages. Among these steps are:
At the scene of the accident, collect as much information as possible. The license plate number, together with the car’s make, model, and color, may be discernible, depending on your level of confidence.
Please alert the authorities immediately. Within a few days, you can acquire a copy of the accident report from the police station where the report was taken or from the California Department of Motor Vehicles. You can submit this evidence with your claim.
Gather as much data as you can on possible witnesses. You must rapidly amass their names and phone numbers.
Get checked out ASAP. If you are injured, it is imperative that you get medical attention immediately.
Your personal insurance carrier should be notified immediately.
