Bicycle Accident Statistics
Although regulations have been created to protect cyclists, many Americans would rather take a car than a bike. More than 800 bicyclists were killed in the United States in 2018. California is, unfortunately, no stranger to these kinds of catastrophes.
The numbers showed a 20% decline in bike accidents nationally between 2016 and 2017. Bicycle accidents fell by 12% between the years 2000 and 2001. The tragedy’s toll, though, continued to rise.
There were 145 fatalities and 11,116 injuries in California cycling incidents in 2017, citing data from the National Cycling Safety Foundation.
Bicycle riders accounted for 4.4% of all road fatalities in California. This is a higher rate than what is typically seen in the United States.
