The California Highway Patrol reported that the fatal collision occurred around 8:23 p.m. near 1601 Pepper Drive.

A 2015 Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by a 64-year-old local man was traveling north on a shared driveway when it pulled into the road directly in front of an approaching 2011 Ducati 848 motorcycle.

The impact of the collision launched the motorcycle rider onto the road. He was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital with serious injuries and later passed away. The truck driver was unharmed.

The motorcyclist’s identification will be released through the Medical Examiner’s Office after his next of kin is notified.

It remains unclear if drugs or alcohol played a role as the investigation continues.

Fatal Motorcycle Accident Statistics

The National Safety Council reported that in 2020, motorcycle accidents caused 14% of all traffic fatalities, 18% of occupant deaths, and 4% of occupant injuries. Only 3% of all drivers were on motorcycles, and they logged less than 0.6% of all vehicle kilometers. If helmets had been used, many lives could have been spared.

More than 785 thousand motorcycles were registered in the Golden State of California in 2020. About 500 motorcyclists were killed there every year, making it one of the two deadliest states. It was concluded that lack of helmet use caused fatalities in 6% of these occurrences.
