Fatal Pedestrian Accident Statistics
Pedestrians and motorcycle riders are more likely to be injured or killed than other road users. This is the reason: they aren’t adequately shielded from harm in the event of an accident.
Pedestrian deaths and injuries have unfortunately increased dramatically. Between 2007 and 2016, the number of people killed while walking increased by 27%, despite a decrease in traffic-related deaths of 14%.
There were a total of 5,977 pedestrian deaths in the US in 2017. According to this estimate, one person dies every 88 minutes. According to an estimate, more than 137,000 non-fatal pedestrian injuries were treated in emergency rooms in 2017.
California leads the nation in pedestrian fatalities and serious injuries. In California, 893 people were killed, and 14,000 were injured in pedestrian-related car accidents last year.
Most pedestrian accidents are caused by driver carelessness, speeding, and failure to yield the right of way. An experienced lawyer’s advice is critical in these types of situations.
