A roadway construction worker died after being hit by a vehicle whose DUI driver fled the scene in Stockton on Thursday, April 06, 2023.
The California Highway Patrol reported that the deadly DUI hit-and-run crash occurred in a construction zone along State Route 4.
A 2017 Honda Accord driven by a 21-year-old woman from Stockton was traveling westbound when she crashed into the construction zone in the two outer right lanes.
The zone was placed to limit access to Interstate 5 in both directions as workers cut concrete in the third and fourth lanes.
The woman hit a 34-year-old male worker from Lone Pine after entering the area at roughly 65 mph. The victim later succumbed to his critical injuries.
The suspect driver abandoned her car and left the scene on foot. She was later found at home, detained, and charged with felony DUI, hit-and-run, and manslaughter.

What to Do After a DUI Accident
When an automotive accident occurs involving drunk drivers, it is imperative to contact the police immediately. Give the police and the insurance company the straight story and don’t make any assumptions. The victim’s innocence and possible subsequent attempts at reparation may be used against them by the insurer in a claim. Hence, avoid displaying such behavior.
