Hit-And-Run Collision Statistics

According to a recent analysis, there are more fatal hit-and-run accidents. In 2020, 24% of all pedestrian fatalities were caused by hit-and-run accidents.

California has the highest rate of pedestrian fatalities and serious injuries compared to other states. In 2012, California saw more than 14,000 pedestrian injuries and 893 fatalities.

Drivers who leave the scene of a collision between two vehicles unattended (including those who flee on foot) are referred to as “hit-and-run” drivers. Additionally, because they are frequently delayed or do not receive medical attention, victims of hit-and-run accidents may endure additional social and financial costs.

Accidents involving pedestrians are frequently caused by sudden braking or failing to yield to pedestrians.

It is suggested that pedestrians use sidewalks whenever possible, refrain from using drugs and alcohol, and exercise caution when crossing parking lots or driveways in order to prevent collisions.

What To Do Following an Accident

After an accident, you need to find a safe spot to pull over immediately. Drivers who flee the scene of an accident face severe penalties under the law. Any fatal or seriously injuring accident should be reported to the authorities immediately, even if the police can’t be called. Anyone riding along with an incapacitated driver must report it to the authorities.

You can safely pull over to the side if nobody is hurt. Abandoned vehicles on the side of the road risk being impounded by the police.
