A man was struck and killed by an SUV while crossing White Lane near El Potrero Lane in Bakersfield on Tuesday night, April 8, 2025.
According to the Bakersfield Police Department, at around 8:25 p.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of White Lane and El Potrero Lane following reports of a collision involving a pedestrian.
The man was found deceased at the scene. A preliminary investigation revealed that the pedestrian had been crossing southbound outside of a crosswalk when he was struck by a red Jeep SUV traveling eastbound on White Lane.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. Excessive speed and impairment were not believed to be factors in the crash.
The BPD is continuing to investigate the incident.
