What To Do Following an Accident
It is difficult to think straight after being struck by a car, especially if you’ve been hurt in a hit-and-run. However, the outcome of your claim against the negligent party can be significantly influenced by what you say and do at the crash scene. You can protect the value of your personal injury claim by following these guidelines:
- After an accident, contact the police and request that an officer fill out an accident report.
- Document everything from your injuries to the weather, road conditions, and the vehicle that hit you.
- Collect the names and contact information of all potential witnesses.
- Visit a doctor or other healthcare provider immediately, and describe every part of your body that is hurting.
- Document your injuries and rehabilitation process in a journal, writing down how you’re feeling, what treatments you’re undergoing, and how much it’s costing you.
- Before consulting with an attorney, you should not negotiate with an insurance company or accept a settlement offer.
- Avoid posting on social media, especially about accidents or how they occurred.
- Seek immediate legal counsel from a seasoned California hit-and-run accident attorney.
