Car Crash Statistics
Car accidents are one of the most common causes of bodily injury in the United States. In 2012 alone, over 5.6 million motor vehicle crashes occurred in the United States, resulting in over 30,000 fatalities and 1.6 million serious injuries.
Every year, 20,000 vehicle-into-building collisions occur in the United States. That equates to 50 to 60 accidents per day.
The most common causes of these incidents are operator and pedal errors, which account for 30% and 26% of all crashes, respectively.
According to storefrontsafety.org, the remaining incidences of cars crashing into buildings are caused by drunk driving (17%), traffic accidents (11%), and medical problems (9%).
Operator mistake, according to Reiter, frequently means that drivers accelerated too soon, were speeding, or were in the wrong gear. Nonetheless, pedal error almost always suggests that the driver stomped on the gas pedal rather than the brake.
