What To Do After A Pedestrian Accident
If you get involved in a pedestrian accident in Huntington Beach, you must know the next steps you should take. This way, you can protect your rights and strengthen your claim. Here are some recommendations on what you can do after an accident:
- If possible, move to a safe location away from traffic.
- Call 911. Report the accident and request emergency assistance.
- Seek medical attention as soon as possible. Even if you feel fine, some injuries may not show immediate symptoms. A medical evaluation is essential to diagnose and document any injuries.
- Capture images of the accident scene, vehicles, crosswalks, traffic signs, and your injuries. Collect names, phone numbers, and addresses of the driver, witnesses, and anyone else involved. Record the driver’s license number, vehicle make and model, and insurance information.

In 2022, the National Safety Council reported that an estimated 9,188 pedestrians lost their lives in both traffic and non-traffic incidents. Non-traffic accidents typically occur in areas such as parking lots, private properties, or driveways.
Data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) showed that 7,522 of those fatalities happened in traffic-related collisions. Most pedestrian deaths occurred in urban settings, with open roads being the most common locations. A significant number of these fatalities happened at night, particularly under dark conditions.
The highest number of fatal pedestrian crashes was recorded on Saturdays, followed closely by Fridays. While pedestrian deaths during the day remained relatively steady throughout the week, nighttime fatalities fluctuated, reaching their peak on Saturdays and hitting their lowest point on Wednesdays.
