Single-Vehicle Crash Statistics

Single-vehicle accidents are some of California’s most dangerous types of motor vehicle accidents, but many drivers aren’t aware of this.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 62% of all fatal car accidents in California involve a single vehicle. Because of the high number of single-vehicle accidents in California, drivers need to be aware of the various factors involved.

A variety of factors can lead to a single-vehicle collision. If the driver is speeding or making sharp turns on a wet, slippery road and loses control, a run-off-the-road collision is a common type of single-car accident. Debris, such as a large branch or an item that fell from the back of a truck, may also be found on the road.

Your insurance policy’s comprehensive coverage plan will likely limit your recovery in a single-car accident caused by something that is not your or another driver’s fault, like a deer jumping in front of your vehicle.

Butte County Car Accident Lawyers

Many car accident victims are unable to return to work or school because of their injuries. The death of a victim does not exonerate a negligent driver from responsibility for their actions. Wrongful death lawsuits can be brought against the driver who caused the victim’s death by negligence by the victim’s surviving family members (or legal heirs).

Reliving their losses and grief is a painful process for them. Victims have to testify about these losses in depositions and trials to strangers. Getting a case settled can take months or even years of work, all of which can significantly impact one’s mental health.

If a driver is negligent and causes an accident, it is important to hold them accountable. In cases where negligence resulted in an unnecessarily high death toll, accountability is critical. Wrongful death claims can be emotionally draining for grieving families, but they can also provide a measure of closure. Everybody on the roads of California will benefit from this.
