One unidentified male adult was killed in a fatal pedestrian accident in Long Beach on Tuesday, May 10, 2022.

[05-10-2022] Los Angeles County, CA - Fatal Pedestrian Crash in Long Beach Results in Death of 66-Year-Old ManOfficers were dispatched to a non-injury traffic collision at approximately 1:51 a.m. near the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Santiago Avenue.

Officers arrived to find a single vehicle that had crashed into a stone wall.

When officers discovered an unconscious male pedestrian underneath the vehicle, a tow truck arrived on the scene and began removing the vehicle.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene by the Long Beach Fire Department.

According to a preliminary investigation, the male adult driver of a white Dodge Van was traveling westbound on Pacific Coast Highway when he collided with the north curb line, entered a flower bed, rolled over several large bushes, and sideswiped a nearby wall.

Prior to the collision, the pedestrian appeared to be sleeping in the bushes and was then struck by the van.

The victim has only been identified as a 66-year-old adult male from Long Beach who is believed to be homeless.

His identity is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin, which will be handled by the Medical Examiner-Coroner of Los Angeles County.

The investigation into the cause of the collision is still ongoing at this time.

However, it is not believed that distracted driving, impaired driving, or speed were factors in the collision.
