Two people were injured after their cars left the road and collided with the Wittmeier Auto Center car lot fence off Highway 99 in Chico on Monday, May 16, 2022.
The collision occurred shortly before noon in the highway’s northbound lanes, just north of the Skyway on-ramp.
A Subaru SUV was parked on the dealership’s fence on the left side.
A Volkswagen minivan was parked alongside the fence off Highway 99. According to the California Highway Patrol, a woman in her 50s was driving the Subaru, while a man in his 60s was driving the Volkswagen. They were both taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The Subaru rolled twice before coming to a stop on its side, according to an 18-year-old passenger in the Subaru.
According to the CHP, the man was merging onto northbound Highway 99 from Skyway and did not see the Subaru in his blind spot before crashing into it.
The scene was attended by the CHP, Chico Fire Department, CAL FIRE Butte County, and medics.
