[05-17-2022] Riverside County, CA – Man Killed While Working on Box Truck on Shoulder of I-215 in Perris

According to the authorities, a man servicing a box truck was struck and killed on the shoulder of Interstate 215 in Perris Tuesday, May 17, 2022.

The fatal collision occurred at about 10:15 a.m. on northbound I-215, just north of Nuevo Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A driver allowed his pickup to drift off the freeway and collide with the victim.

Officer Javier Navarro said the victim, whose identity was not immediately released, pulled over to the right shoulder of the road to refill the radiator with the assistance of a passenger.

According to Navarro, the victim was attempting to secure the driver’s side hood latch after topping off the radiator when a Toyota Tacoma approached in the slow lane at an unknown speed.

According to a CHP spokesman, the Toyota drifted onto the shoulder for an unknown reason, colliding with the International and the male pedestrian.

The man died as a result of his injuries sustained in the collision.

Within minutes, Riverside County Fire Department crews arrived at the scene and pronounced the victim dead on the spot.

According to Navarro, neither the other man nor the pickup driver, who came to a complete stop, were injured.

Alcohol was not believed to be a factor in this collision The driver was questioned but not arrested.
