How To Protect Yourself After A DUI Accident In Hesperia, CA

If you or someone you know is injured in a DUI accident, your safety and well-being should be the top priority. Here are the steps to take after being involved in an accident with a drunk or drugged driver:

  1. Check For Injuries
First, check yourself and others involved in the accident for injuries. Look for visible signs like cuts, bruises, or broken bones. Pay attention to any pain, as it could indicate internal injuries that aren’t immediately visible.
  2. Ensure Safety
Your safety and the safety of others should come first. If the accident happened in a dangerous area, like a busy road, try to move to a safer location. However, be careful not to make injuries worse when moving anyone.
  3. Report The Accident
Call 911 or have someone else call for you. Law enforcement needs to document the scene, conduct sobriety tests, and arrest the driver if they are intoxicated. They will also file an official report.
  4. Seek Medical Attention
Emergency responders, such as paramedics, will assess your condition and provide first aid. If they recommend it, go to the hospital for further treatment. Getting medical care right away helps with your recovery and provides official records of your injuries.
  5. Gather Information
While waiting for the authorities, gather important information. Get the other driver’s name, contact number, and insurance details. Also, take down contact information for any witnesses, as their statements can help your case.
  6. Document The Incident
Use your phone to take photos and videos of the scene. Capture images of vehicle damage, your injuries, and anything that shows the other driver’s intoxication, like open alcohol containers. This evidence can be very useful when building your claim.
  7. Call An Experienced Attorney
After a DUI accident, it’s a good idea to talk to a DUI accident attorney in Hesperia. A lawyer can explain the claims process, help you organize documents, and assist with communication with insurance companies and other involved parties.
