The California Highway Patrol said the incident occurred around 4:12 a.m. on southbound Highway 17.
The report indicates a fatal collision between a gray minivan and a gray Honda Civic caused traffic congestion.
Authorities have confirmed the loss of one individual in the crash.
In response to the incident, all lanes were temporarily shut down but reopened around 7 a.m., as reported by the CHP.
