According to local police, an officer was injured after a woman accused of driving drunk collided with a patrol car, forcing a police chase in Cotati on Friday, June 3, 2022.
The crash occurred on a Friday on W. Sierra Drive.
According to officials, the chase began when a man came into the Cotati Police Department to pick up his child in a custody exchange, claiming the child’s mother was driving drunk.
The woman, identified as Dorfer by police, was seen in her green Lexus in the police department’s parking lot.
Dorfer was ordered to stop by a sergeant, but she allegedly fled in her Lexus.
According to police, a second sergeant saw the Lexus on W. Sierra Ave and attempted to pull Dorfer over with sirens, but she did not stop. According to the sergeant, Dorfer, instead, put her hand out the window of her car and displayed her middle finger.
Dorfer then allegedly backed up and slammed into a police car that was attempting to pull her over.
The car was severely damaged, and the sergeant suffered minor injuries as a result of the collision.
Dorfer fled the scene after ramming into the patrol car, police said, and was driving at dangerous speeds, nearly colliding with a motorcyclist. Dorfer allegedly collided with two cars in Rohnert Park, prompting the pursuit to be called off due to the high risk involved.
Dorfer’s Lexus was later discovered at a Rohnert Park convenience store on E. Cotati Ave.
Dorfer allegedly dashed into the store and drank a travel-size bottle of hard liquor, according to police.
Dorfer allegedly bit one officer while being taken into custody, according to authorities.
During the chase, the police did not say where the child was.
Dorfman had a blood alcohol content of .20%, according to the police. She was charged with felony obstructing/resisting arrest, felony assault with a deadly weapon against an officer, felony battery against an officer, felony hit and run, and felony DUI, and was booked into the county jail.
According to authorities, bail has been set at $200,000.
DUI Accident Statistics
Road hazards are especially dangerous for pedestrians. Because they have no safeguards in place in the event of a major accident, they are the most vulnerable.
There has been a significant rise in pedestrian deaths in the United States over the past few years. Between 2007 and 2016, there was a 27% increase in pedestrian deaths, while traffic-related deaths decreased by 14%.
In this case, a drunk driver had a duty to yield the right of way to a helpless pedestrian but refused to do so. Getting behind the wheel of a car after using drugs or alcohol is a serious offense. In the United States, there are a lot of drunk driving accidents, which is a shame.
U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that about 30 people are killed every day in drunk driving accidents. In the United States, nearly a third of all fatal car accidents are caused by drunk drivers. Sixty-one percent of these motorists were found to have blood alcohol levels (BAC) above the legal limit.
