According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened at about 8:30 p.m. on Highway 198 near Court Street.

Authorities stated they received reports about the male pedestrian stumbling on the road. Officials said the victim was struck by a car driven by a man identified as James M. of Exeter before police arrived and was declared dead at the scene.

The CHP said the driver was not found to be at blame for the crash but was determined to be under the influence of alcohol and detained for DUI. Officials added that the pedestrian’s identity has not yet been released, pending notification of the next of kin.

There was no additional information about the crash provided by the officials. Anyone with information is advised to contact the police as soon as possible.
