Big Rig Accident Statistics

In the United States, a semi-truck collision claims one person’s life every fifteen minutes. About 500,000 trucking accidents occur in the United States annually, and about 5,000 truckers are killed.

About 113 people are murdered, and 3,000 are injured yearly in California truck accidents. Every year, between 200 and 300 persons lose their lives in truck accidents in California.

Tractor-trailer collisions are the most dangerous compared to other car accidents. The size of big rig trucks is the primary reason for this. Stopping time is significantly longer when the vehicle’s weight exceeds that of the vehicle’s capacity.

Because of their size and numerous “blind spots,” larger trucks require a greater stopping distance. These deficiencies can lead to unsafe driving, car accidents, and sleepiness. People who drive other vehicles, not simply trucks, are responsible for many truck accidents.

Drivers can avoid truck accidents by leaving an appropriate amount of stopping space between their vehicle and a semi-truck; drivers must also avoid driving into a truck’s blind spot.
