Pedestrian Accident Statistics
Pedestrians and motorcycle riders are more likely to injure or kill people while driving. When something goes wrong, they won’t be adequately safeguarded.
As a result, the number of people who are killed or injured while walking has increased significantly. More people were killed while walking than while driving, even though the number of traffic-related deaths decreased by 14% between 2007 and 2016.
Last year, there were 5,977 pedestrian deaths in the United States. According to this estimate, one person dies every 88 minutes. Non-fatal injuries to pedestrians were treated in emergency rooms across the country in 2017 for more than 137,000 people.
Many pedestrian deaths and serious injuries occur in California, compared to other states. Walking was the cause of the deaths of 893 people and the injuries of 14,000 in California last year.
For the vast majority of pedestrian accidents, the negligence of the driver is to blame, whether it’s speeding or failing to yield the right-of-way. These kinds of cases require the advice of a knowledgeable lawyer.
